How to Tell it’s Time For a New Bathroom

Often it’s hard to find a definitive answer to when you should begin to renovate a room. It can be down to budget limitations, time restrictions or simply having the inclination to make changes within the home. It is often the case that we become complacent with our surroundings – we stop noticing the chipped wallpaper, broken tiles or yellowing ceilings and begin to accept them as “the norm”. It’s likely that the bathroom decor you hated upon moving in and swore you would change as soon as possible now doesn’t seem so bad. However, the bathroom is the room that’s used the most in your home and therefore somewhere you cannot avoid being. Your surroundings do have an effect on your mood and altering them to your own taste can make a huge difference to how you feel when you’re in them. So how can you tell it’s time for a new bathroom?

You know it’s time for a new bathroom when:

  • You dread people coming to visit, knowing they may go in the room
  • You feel down, irritated or annoyed every time you go in there
  • People have made comments about it; suggesting spruce ups
  • You’ve fallen in love with a bathroom and all you can think about it imitating it!
  • You have a free weekend and enough money to make a difference

So, where do you start?

A new bathroom doesn’t need to mean an entire new suite. You could be amazed at the difference a modern shower unit in place of a dingy bath could make, or swapping a stained sink for a shiny new one. Even just changing the decor and adding a few new items such as plush rugs, mirrors, towel rails or pieces of art can make the world of difference.

You should start by looking at what you can afford. It’s important that you don’t replace your negative feelings towards your bathroom with negative feelings about your new one if it’s gotten you into debt – be sensible, set limitations and don’t settle for something you don’t want just because you can afford it.

Why not take a good look at your bathroom next time you’re in there to see what you like and don’t like about it, and start to think whether it’s time to renovate your bathroom?
