How to Decorate Your En Suite Bathroom

If you have an decent sized budget then decorating your en suite bathroom can be a fun, enjoyable and pleasant thing to do. If you have a bathroom that is large, then you have a wide range of suites and products to select from, designed to coordinate well. However if you don’t have these things, with space especially being limited in the average en suite bathroom, then you must be more careful with your decorating choices.

Often the first thing to decide on is whether you want a bath in the room. Baths can be luxurious and are a wonderful way to unwind, but as your en suite is likely to be your second or even third bathroom then you more than likely already have a bath. This means that you can save on space in your en suite and go for a shower unit to coincide with your toilet and sink. It’s important that you don’t use up every inch of floor space with big bulky units and if you find a way to save space in a smaller room, then you should take advantage of this. It is for this reason that baths aren’t normally a top priority for this room.

One of the Biggest En Suite Issues: Restricted Height & Space

So we have learnt that a bath isn’t a necessity, but a shower is. Showers come in a huge range of styles, shapes and sizes with some providing space-saving solutions and others taking up a large percentage of your room. Take accurate measurements and ensure that your desired shower will be both attractive and practical, without looking crammed in.

The use of colour can dramatically open up the room, and white suites with matching white tiling provide a much greater sense of space. If you’re not a huge fan of white, you should still stick to lighter shades such as pastels for a more sophisticated and spacious en suite. To install a unit you should consider your height restrictions and have the toilet and bath fitted where the lowest head clearance is and the shower in the space with the most. Plenty of light fittings work well to optimise your space.

You can create the illusion of more space with the use of mirrors. Selecting on large mirror onto the largest wall at eye level will work best. You could also have a light fitting installed behind your mirror to make it seem much bigger than it actually is. If you have a large, decorative mirror then avoid other wall hangings – one piece is much more stylish than a collection of many, especially when space is limited.

The flooring you decide on has a huge effect on the appearance of the room. While dark, natural woods can look beautiful and give off a rustic feel, they can make the room appear smaller. Lighter wood or light coloured tiles are the best for optimising space and can be made to look cost with the use of a plush rug.
