3 Tips For Choosing Bathroom Tiles

Bathroom tiles have the potential to elevate a space and enhance cleanliness, design and convenience – but how do you find the right tiles for your bathroom?

As with every domestic design project, choosing your bathroom tiles will ultimately come down to personal preference. However, there are a few key factors to keep in mind which should help ensure the tiles you choose really add to the feel and look of your bathroom.

Size

The size of your bathroom and the size of your bathroom tiles matter. While there is no need to get too concerned about how big or how small your new bathroom tiles are, it’s worthwhile pondering what size will work best in the space you have.

As a guide, light and small or medium sized tiles work particularly well in smaller and darker bathrooms as they make a room feel more spacious. Big bathrooms can absorb bold colours and large tiles – although that’s not to say smaller bathrooms can’t too. An equally important consideration is the layout of fixtures, and how much space there is between the likes of the loo, bath, washbasin and windows, as you may have to cut lots of tiles so smaller ones could look better regardless of the room size.

Also, if you grout carefully or select tiles which can be placed close together, there’s no reason why smaller tiles can’t work in all rooms, large or small. Keep in mind that matching wall and floor tiles will add to the feeling of spaciousness also.

Quantity

It’s a good idea to buy more tiles than you think you’ll need, probably about 10% more, as this will cover for any breakages that occur and ensure you can finish tiling the bathroom in the colour and material you want to. Normally you can send unopened boxes of tiles back for a refund too.

Quality

As hard as it might be, when selecting your tiles try to choose them based on quality rather than price. Tiling your bathroom is a good investment as it could enhance your enjoyment of the room and add value to your property too. Natural stone tiles are popular because they look so fantastic – although nowadays you can find some excellent ones that replicate the effect, such as the Emperador Brown Porcelain tiles and Sand Porcelain tiles that are beautifully polished and look just like marble.

Whichever tiles you choose, make sure they work for your bathroom and house.
