Eco friendly bathrooms

We’re all concerned with the environment, and many of us are looking to conserve energy and save money on our energy bills. Creating an eco friendly bathroom will allow us to do this without compromising on our hygiene needs. When you start creating your eco friendly bathroom you need to consider the toxic products that we use to equip it and the way they are manufactured.

To create your eco friendly bathroom you should consider using ceramic tiles for the floor, tops of your units, tiles for your walls and those that will surround your bath and shower. The negative impact of the environment during the manufacturing process is low and is less prone to damage from the moisture in the bathroom when using ceramic tiles. You can even get your ceramic tiles made from recycled products. Another product you could consider is natural linoleum or bamboo, which are both environmentally friendly for your floors with the added bonus that they have an amazing look and create a fantastic feel to your bathroom.

When looking at the type of shower that you want in your bathroom you should install a low flow shower head which will save you money on water and energy bills over time. Using a shower more than a bath will also save you money and energy. The conventional showerheads use about 6 gallons of water per minute while the newer models usually use 2 gallons of water per minute.

Looking at saving you money on water, installing an ultra low flush toilet will use roughly 1 gallon of water per flush, though you should do your homework when choosing one as some may clog. Dual flush toilets have two buttons that allow you to conserve your water by selecting the amount of water in which you need. Using a pressure assisted toilet can save water, they use compressed air for flushing; the only down side to these are they are noisy.

Cabinets can be chosen made from wheat board; these are made from a non-toxic binder and wheat straw. Another eco friendly option to you cabinets is harvested wood. The conventional types of cabinets are made from MDF, which can be toxic. Installing a fan that will reduce the moisture in your bathroom can prevent mould and mildew. With many options to choose from you can create the perfect eco friendly bathroom. However, make sure you use eco friendly products to clean it too!
