Springtime looks to brighten your bathroom

We all remember the bathrooms of the past.  A bathroom used to be a room with a bath, sink, mirror and maybe even a shower.  A room to house the essential items for personal hygiene.

Over the years the bathroom has become more important.  All family members will spend a good deal of time in the bathroom.  With spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time think of renovating your bathroom.

Everyone of a certain age remembers with a fondness the olive green bathroom.  It soon fell out of fashion.  These days when choosing to renovate your bathroom the choice is incredible.

Depending on the budget available you can achieve results and it does not have to break the bank.   Although the bathroom has to be practical, it can also have a sense of style.  A classic old style bathroom for example can be achieved relatively easily.  Buying classic fittings with well positioned lighting can transform the bathroom into a relaxing bolthole.  An escape from the stresses and strains of everyday living.

A new bathroom can give a home a real new lease of life.  If you have only a small space available you have to follow a few simple rules to make the most of the space available.  Perhaps you prefer a shower to a bath, this can save space.  If you enjoy a bath you could always choose a bath that is slightly smaller than standard size, leaving you more space to play with.

Use the wall space available.  Try and get as much off the floor as possible.  A clear floor area makes the room seem larger.  Mirrors are also good for making rooms seem larger than they actually are.

Colour is an important factor too.  Colours should be neutral in small bathrooms.  In a small bathroom avoid small tiles and patterns as they make a room look less spacious.  The more natural light in the bathroom the better. Virtually any material can be used to surface the floors as long as it is waterproof.  Depending on budget and taste granite, marble or ceramic tiles are highly durable and also look very stylish.  Whatever you choose the surface should be durable and slip resistant.

Although it may seem like an added expense no remodel is complete without new accessories.  Surprisingly small things like new towels, soap dishes, towel racks and bath mats can all add to the finished product and give a whole new feel to the bathroom.
