Top Tips For Saving Water In The Bathroom

By reducing the amount of water you waste in the bathroom, not only will you give the environment a helping hand but your bank balance will feel healthier as a result too.

Everything seems to cost nowadays and energy bills are on the rise, so it makes sense to do your bit to curb expenses where you can. And the good news is that small steps really do make a big difference – and most of the time you won’t even notice you’re conserving your water usage with these ideas and habits.

Turn off taps

This may sound obvious but how many of us are guilty of leaving the tap running while we clean our teeth or apply facial cleanser? Make sure you always turn the tap off when you’re not actually using the water, and you could save up to 6 litres each and every minute.

Stop leaking taps

Not only are leaking taps irritating but they waste a huge amount of water. So fix any faulty taps straightaway.

Get a new loo

By investing in a low-flush and dual-flush loo you’ll dramatically reduce the amount of water that’s used for each flush – up to 6 litres of water less is used with this type of loo compared to traditional loos. However, if you don’t want to replace your current loo, you could install a dual-flush device instead and this will save you up to half the amount of water per flush.

Speed up your shower

The quicker you are in the shower, the more water you’ll save. It really is that simple!

Blank the bath

A standard bath holds up to 80 litres of water, according to the Energy Saving Trust, so it’s a good idea to shower more frequently and when you do decide to bathe, don’t fill the tub to the brim. Alternatively, you could take a look at different baths to see if a new one will help you save water too.

Buy a jacket for your tank

By popping a jacket on your hot water tank to insulate it, you could save in the region of £45 per year. And the Energy Saving Trust reckons a further £15 or so could be saved by also insulating any hot water pipes you can see.

Don’t throw that water away

If you find abandoned glasses of water lying around your house or need to run the tap for a moment before the hot water comes through, make sure you use this wasted water wisely – for example, you could water the plants with it.
