What Not To Store In Your Bathroom

Ideally the bathroom should be a place free from clutter, so that the things you need are easily accessible and so that you have a serene environment to relax in.

Less clutter also makes for easy cleaning and adds to a fresh, clean and minimalistic feel. However, there are many items that people regularly store in a bathroom, which can have major effects on your health and should be avoided.

For example, the bathroom is likely to be the place where you keep a medicine cabinet to store medicines, yet, according to many world wide professors including the director of Professional Affairs at the Pharmacists Society in the US, Selig Corman, there are many dangers likely when storing medicines in your bathroom, with the professor saying it is ‘simply the worst room to keep your medicine in’.

This is because it is of the essence that medicines are stored at a temperature of no more than 77 degrees and kept well away from moisture. With the bathroom being prone to both heat and moisture this can result in two things happening to your medicines, one being that they will lose effectiveness; even an ordinary aspirin, and the other is that when certain medicines react with moisture they produce chemicals which can be very harmful for human consumption.

Another item regularly kept in our bathrooms, which shouldn’t be, is makeup. Makeup should be stored in a room that is cool and dry without any exposure to heat or humidity. Bacteria, moulds and fungi can grow in cosmetics which have been opened and even more so if the products are kept in a bathroom. This is because of the environment, which will allow the harmful substances to thrive which can result in many unpleasant skin reactions

It may seem logical to some, but many people cannot resist relaxing in the tub whilst listening to their favourite music or playing on smartphones and/or tablets. This, however, can only be done with the use of electrical items, which, when exposed to water can not only be irreparably damaged but can also cause harm to you – water and electricity do not mix well. Bathrooms are often the place for reading materials, such as a good novel or paperwork of the day but when left in the bathroom paper is highly susceptible to water damage and can be a breeding ground for mould and mildew, so if you read in the bathroom, take the book with you when you leave.
