3 Popular Bathroom Features

1. Bath

Love them or hate them, baths still appear in most people’s bathrooms, be it in the form of a corner bath, freestanding model, long tub, square tub, double-ended bath for sharing, or something a little different. While the bath and shower can divide people widely, there are plenty of us who still appreciate the humble tub – there’s nothing quite like relaxing in a warm bath at the end of a long day, to unwind. Nowadays though, the bath is often not so humble and you can choose a more decadent version such as a sunken bath, one set into a raised platform with only the lip showing, or a whirlpool with hydrotherapy jets.

2. Shower

Whether you solely like the shower or a good mixture of the shower and bath, depending on your mood and time of day, the shower is a popular fixture in most modern day bathrooms. The type of shower enclosure you go for depends on the style of your bathroom and how much space you have. For example, you may opt for a walk-in shower with no door and more of a wet room feel; an enclosed shower; or a shower over the bathtub. There are electric, power and mixer showers available, as well as steam showers which effectively transform your shower into a steam room at the press of a button.

3. Lighting

A great deal of ambience can be created through bathroom lighting, with softer glows for calmer times like bathing and unwinding, and brighter light for practical moments like shaving or putting on make-up. It’s possible to have spotlights or special lights placed above the mirror to ensure you can really see clearly when needed. It often works well to also have a central light or wall lights that highlight certain elements of the room or create more of a glow than brightness – and you can achieve a good balance of light with a dimmer switch, turning it up and bringing it down accordingly. Other popular bathroom features include heated towel rails, underfloor heating that means your feet stay lovely and warm even on winter mornings, and inbuilt storage that cleverly keeps the room clutter-free while allowing easy access to products.
