The use of bright colours fool the eye into thinking the room is larger and more inviting, and by using bold and bright colours you really open up the existing space which could be then accompanied with a lighter toned trim – to make the walls seem much larger than they are.

This is very often the technique used within show homes and hotels, where the purpose of your visit is to spend money and so designers will have the objective of making the space look as appealing as possible. There’s really no better way to do this than with the use of colour.

You can be as daring as you like and have your entire bathroom decorated with bright colours for a real focal point to the home, or you can incorporate bright and bold colours with paler shades for a stunning contrast.

You could choose one bold colour; such as red, green or purple and paint the room in a plain white, cream or beige using the bolder shade for accessories throughout. Your accessories will be optimized and make for striking pieces against their plainer backdrop and could be things like ornamental items, blinds, rugs, towels, wall art and plants.

The use of bright colours in a bathroom produces an image of style, sophistication and modern luxury. Brighter colours will make the room look fresh and new, with a clean feel throughout. You could stick to one bright colour or opt for a feature wall with the remainder being less vibrant to make your chosen wall really stand out.

Wallpaper is rarely used in a bathroom but it can be very effective when wanting to create a colourful room, coming in all patterns, shades and decorative designs. For wallpaper to survive the elements of a bathroom (mould, damp and heat) you need to be looking at a range which is specifically designed to be endurable, such as specialists bathroom or kitchen wallpapers. Ideally you wouldn’t have walls papered which were going to have to withstand excessive water, such as near to the shower or bath and this area is best to be tiled. Tiles can come in many colours as well as having the option of painting them yourself with specialist paint.
