Seaside Themed Bathrooms

If we consider our favourite places of relaxation, it’s highly probable that for many of us a day spent at the beach will feature highly. The feel of the suns rays heating your body, the sound of the waves in the background and the chance to simply unwind all make this somewhere we love to visit. At home, many of us head to the bathroom as our little getaway and wash away the cares of the day whilst soaking in a nice hot bath. It’s logical then, that a seaside theme for a bathroom is a way to have your favourite relaxation place always with you. Seaside themed bathrooms are very common and so it’s important to think more creatively to avoid your bathroom being something that is run-of-the-mill.

For a stylish bathroom, you must avoid the home stencil kits, rarely will they add any sophistication and they’re all too easy to get wrong. Other things to avoid are palm tree shower curtains, stick on dolphins and seaside toilet lids. You want your bathroom to represent you, to provide a home haven and not to look like your interior was comprised from pound shop knickknacks.

Start with one personal inspirational piece – this could be a photograph from your last holiday to Hawaii, a postcard which displays a tranquil beach scene or even a mounted bikini which could be optimised with a shadowbox frame (think out of the box). The item you choose will kick-start your seaside bathroom makeover. Use your inspiration to develop a theme – whether this is nautical, 1940’s beach or romance.

Do away with the white walls, as nothing says boring more than clinical white walls. To create the right seaside vibes go for colours, which are more naturally linked, to the seashore. Choose a paint which is a warm sandy colour, or a colour shade such as green, blue or purple-grey. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you choose your colours carefully, too dark and your room could be reminiscent of a wet weekend in Blackpool, too bright and you’ll struggle to relax properly.

Bathrooms are generally small rooms and so all it takes to redecorate sometimes is to change your accessories. Plush terry cloth towels or a bright colourful shower curtain can be a cheap ways to enhance your bathrooms. Stripes can suggest summer sophistication whilst Hawaiian prints can add that luau look.

You can add a sense of the tropics to your bathroom with some plants too. Artificial plants can work well if you have a low supply of sunlight in the room. Along with this you could also use bamboo for frames or vases and have some shells to decorate one object – making for a real focal point.

However you decorate your seaside themed bathroom, we’re sure you’ll find it an oasis of calm!
