Should You Have a TV in Your Bathroom?

Your bathroom is your personal space to relax and unwind. It’s your own getaway and if you decide that you want to watch TV whilst taking a soak, then why not? Of course, a standard TV wouldn’t be the most practical in all circumstances, nor is it advisable to simply mount a flat screen on the wall as you could in any other rooms. Below are some things to consider if you’re thinking of installing a TV in your bathroom:

Make it Attractive: You could disguise your TV; maybe as an architectural element to look much less intrusive than a large electrical in your tranquil space. For example, you could consider matching your TV to some existing architecture, maybe a fireplace or window ledge and take that colour and size to frame the television. You could even consider hiding it, maybe behind a stylish unit, cabinet or piece of removable wall art.

Select a Waterproof Version: In a bathroom your TV will be subject to a moisture build-up. This as well as the potential hazards of water spills and splashes can cause irreparable damage over time. For this reason you should be looking at specialised televisions, ones which are rated for either outdoor or bathroom use as they are built to withstand environments that are wet. Many models will have built-in fog resistance, which comes in extremely handy for those who like to partake in long, steamy showers.

Choose Your Location: What are your reasons for wanting a bathroom TV? Is it to chill out with a film whilst having a long soak in the bath or to watch the night time headlines as you remove your makeup, brush your teeth etc? Your initial reason will dictate where you locate the television for optimum use. If you will want to watch is from many angles then consider a wall-mounted model which could be turned to face multiple points due to it’s swivelling shelf. Your TV should also have the ability to be able to be tilted, a TV that only faces one position is unlikely to provide comfortable viewing if you’re taking a bath.

Consider a Portable Television: Mounting your TV will mean drilling into the walls which will leave nasty holes and marks if you were to ever want to remove your TV from the room, or change its position. It will result in plastering and decorating, or living with an ugly wall. Eliminate this possibility by having a TV sitting on top of a unit, or even a freestanding floor model, which can easily be transported if required without leaving any lasting damage.

Now you’ve considered this, you’re ready to make that decision. Are you going to put a TV in your bathroom?
