Making A Small Bathroom Look Larger

The décor in a bathroom is essential if you are trying to make a small, cosy room, look bright, and spacious. Visual enhancements can magnificently enhance the appearance of dainty bathrooms. A lighter colour, mirrors, and accessories all add to the transformation of the room. So don’t fret if your bathroom is small, as it is possible to achieve a larger looking bathroom, without the need of an extension.

Colour is Key

Choosing a colour scheme is a good place to start, light, calming colours open up the space and bright accessories give a front focal view. Good lighting on the ceiling adds to the effect, whilst large mirrors and wall lighting can add comforting warmth. The lighter colours that have been used for the ceiling and walls increase the visual appearance.

Next: the floor. Using the same method as the walls, a light colour flooring or carpet will enhance the surroundings, if new flooring is not an option, a light coloured large rug can be place on the floor which is already in use, this will have the same effect.

Optical Illusions

On the biggest open wall in the room, a large stenciled mural, or a large picture of a scenic view, stunning horizon or a peaceful landscape, will help towards the visual expansion of the room. An optical illusion can be created on the ceiling, giving the effect of a higher ceiling. This look can be achieved by installing a crowned moulding the ceiling or by painting a chunky design or lattice, around the ceilings edgings.

If you remove the shower door or bath door, if it is made using frosted glass, and replace it with one that has been made using clear glass, this furthers the focal views. Having a shower curtain in place instead of the door and leaving it fully open when not in use, allows the eyes to focus to the back of the room, adding to the appearance of a larger room.

Whether small or large, any item in the room, which could cause an obstruction if it is protruding from its location, can decrease the visual appearance. Replacing these with smaller but taller objects and removing shelves from the walls along with any hanging accessories will improve the look of the size of the bathroom.

Changing the appearance of a room through visual illusions is a cost effective way of having a more extensive, beautiful bathroom without adding extra space.
